MPO’s Most-Read Stories This Week—Oct. 26

A listing of the most popular items from the past seven days.

Masimo’s messy proxy battle is still reverberating with MPO readers.

The appointment of two new board members produced the most pageviews on the magazine’s website this past week. The appointments follow a two-year fight for control of Masimo’s governing body that ended in mid-September with the election of Politan-backed board candidates Darlene Solomon and Bill Jellison, ousting former CEO Joe Kiani. Masimo’s founder resigned after the election (as he promised). The newest board members are 30-year medical device industry veteran Timothy Scannell, Stryker Corporation’s president and chief operating officer from 2018-2021, and Wendy Lane, who has served on the boards of 16 companies over the last 32 years.

Runner-up to Masimo’s traffic-driving board rebuilding saga was the launch of Withings Health Solutions’ BPM Pro 2, a first-of-its-kind cellular blood pressure monitor that measures heart rate and blood pressure, and comes with the future capability to take a one-lead ECG to detect atrial fibrillation (following FDA clearance). The device is portable, compact, and designed to be user-friendly.

Boston Scientific attracted a significant number of cybervisitors too, by earning FDA approval and for its navigation-enabled Farawave NAV ablation catheter to treat paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AFib) and 510(k) clearance for new Faraview software. The company immediately launched these two technologies in the United States. Both products allow cardiac ablation visualization with the Farapulse pulsed field ablation system and are used with Boston Scientific’s current cardiac mapping technology.

Other items of interest to MPO loyalists this past week included news about MedTech Innovator’s Grand Prize Winner and an online exclusive about the factors that manufacturers must consider in packaging for chlorine dioxide (CD) versus ethylene oxide (EO).
